Biography William Boling was born and raised in the southeastern United States and has made his life there. He studied drawing and painting at Georgia State University and L’Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Rennes, France. He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. He currently studies with Stephen Shore in a special masters program offered by Bard College in New York. He is the founder and publisher of Fall Line Arts Press a small imprint that was started in Augusta, Georgia and is currently based in Atlanta. His work and photography explore the lyrical documentation of the vernacular landscape and his relationship to the ephemeral artifacts and situations that arise there. There are several significant voices in this work ranging from typological catalogs of recurring objects in situ -- such as traffic pylons; archives of “found” or “street curated” images – such as eBay auction pictures; and straight photography that is grounded in the emotional backdrop of the history of the thing and place itself and the photographer’s response to it -- such as the photographs of hometowns of Jasper Johns, Flannery O’Connor and other southern writers and artists whose lives and works have deep meaning for the artist. |
